Is Your Child Suffering from Asthma?

If you have a child suffering from asthma you know firsthand how scary the symptoms can be. When your little loved one is coughing, wheezing or can’t catch their breath it is one of the scariest things on the planet, as a parent you may feel helpless and like there are no options available for you. This article is made to shed some light on the available drugless treatment options for asthma.

Theories of what causes asthma

Today asthma diagnoses seem to be rising at a dramatic rate. Many in the scientific community seem to think it is because the decreased quality of and the number of chemises in our environment. We have insulated homes that can trap mold spores, chemicals, and other irritants. Even antibiotics and the massive amount of anti-bacterial products used today have been blamed for this rise in asthma. However, if this truly were the cause, why doesn’t every child who lives in the same house hold and breathes in the same air suffer equally? The reason can be found looking at the nervous system.

Where Chiropractic Comes in

The diaphragm is the most used muscle for breathing. The nerves controlling this primary organ of respiration leave the brain and exit the spinal cord in the mid neck (C3, C4 and C5) area. If there is any damage in this area of the spine it directly affects the nerves that go to the diaphragm in a major way.

At Thrive Health Center we have seen that reducing the misalignments and damage in the spine helps to restore proper function of the nervous system and may have a profound effect of the lungs and diaphragm.

Supportive Research

While more research is needed about chiropractic and asthma there have been studies published that demonstrate chiropractic has a positive impact on asthmatic patients. In fact a study done by the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research documented the results experienced by 81 children with asthma who received chiropractic care and the results were incredible. The two-month study revealed that those under care saw a 45% decrease in the number of “attacks” and that 31% of the subjects voluntarily chose to decrease their medication.
